Raunch Culture is a Success of Feminism

Lots of people talk about women taking their clothes off for modelling as being 'degrading' and 'disgusting' but I think in the 21st Century any woman has the right to display her sexuality proudly.
I have been criticised for taking photos that reveal my body, and it wasnt a man who tried to bring me down, but a fellow woman. I have as much right to be proud of my body and enjoy my sexuality as you do to be uptight and rude. It is you with your outdated values that are holding women back. Lots of the same women who criticise my (nearly) bare body are those who fangirl over shirtless male musicians. Equality, my ass.

People like the Spice Girls... yes laugh.... taught young girls that its ok to be be a female and wear what you like and speak your mind and earn as much money as a man. I think Dita Von Teese shows us all that you can be sexy AND tasteful.
You might think of Playboy bunnies as play things, but they are smart business women who know how best to earn money and lets face it, they control ANY man who sees them.

Be proud to be a sexy woman and wear as much clothing as you feel comfortable in. Taking your clothes off doesnt make you a slut or a whore, but someone who is comfortable and proud of their body and who they are. So no more dissing people like Audrey, k?

Wiped out.

This is not slutty. This is sexy and proud.

Yeah I can't see why people call, lets say..paris hilton, a slut. Whe she is smart enough to sell her self as an image and become as succesful as she is now. I think people just talk shit and acually really want to be the naked ckick in all the top magazines. ...shame its not working for you.

i like this

and the bit about the playboy bunnies is too true. Holly madison ( heffs number 1 gf) is probably the smartest business woman i know and she is is blonde with big boobs. just goes to show about sexuality , equality and sterotypes

it just goes to show that using the degradingly is shite

Um...yeah, there is nothing feminist about selling sex and there's a fine line between sexuality and marketing bodies. Raunch culture devalues sexuality in that it puts a price on women and their bodies. There's nothing equal about a shirtless male musician and a shirtless female model. The female is much more sexualized than the male in an objectifying manner. At all the concerts I've been to the shirtless male musicians weren't being screamed at and drooled over, it was the overly feminine lead singer who was fully dressed. Being proud of your body doesn't mean you have to sell it. Being proud of your body means taking care of it and keeping it healthy and carrying yourself in a manner that doesn't promote objectification and sex selling. Raunch culture is definitely not a success of feminism, especially since it is sold, exploited, and run by mostly white male patriarchal capitalists. Things and people like Girls Gone Wild and Paris Hilton's sex tapes aren't feminist successes. It is true that we should be able to wear what we want and embrace our sexuality in ways that feel right to us, but raunch culture doesn't promote that, it exploits the idea for profits and continues objectification and degregation.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree that this journal entry is worth all the buzz and hype its getting.

You're right. Equality my ass. Women are the discriminating ones. Against men, against women, against everything. So inequality leans towards women. While I agree everyone should where what they want - and that includes men in skirts and otherwise "girly" things - I hate feminist bullshit. Feminism is the definition of one-sidedness and inequality. Also, supporting PETA is not exactly a good thing, in my opinion.
